The 2021 season taught us a lot about the Clarksville High School football team, but one of the players that had to make the biggest adjustment for the ‘Cats was Jamar Carnell.

After playing several seasons as the main power back, Carnell found himself moving up to play quarterback after the injury to fellow junior Davin Garinger. That did not stop the running back turned signal caller from also playing linebacker for the Wildcats during the season.

“He grew as a leader and was very unselfish about what he had to do to help the team this year,” said Shelby about Carnell’s growth in 2021.

Carnell has received interest from several programs and been invited to several junior days, but the offer from Valdosta State is the first of many to come for the junior.

“The sky is the limit,” Shelby said about Carnell’s potential.

Valdosta State is a top team in Division II having won 4 national championships in 2004, 2007, 2012, and most recently 2018. The Blazers are a member of the Gulf South Conference and finished this season with a 12-2 record and number 2 overall in D2 after losing to Ferris State in the national championship.
